On October 15, IHU Infiny brought together researchers, clinicians and partners in Nancy for the second edition of its scientific symposium FUTURES.<\/p>\n\n

The event was rich in discussion and collaboration around a shared goal: to better understand the gut\u2013brain axis and its links with diet and the environment, in order to advance research and patient care in the field of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD).<\/p>\n\n

Francisca Joly (Beaujon Hospital, AP-HP)<\/strong> opened the day with a clear and engaging presentation on the gut as a \u201csecond brain.\u201d She highlighted the diversity of the microbiota and explained how this inner ecosystem influences immunity, metabolism, and even emotions\u2014offering a talk that was both scientific and accessible. <\/p>\n\n

Charles Bernstein (University of Manitoba, Winnipeg, Canada)<\/strong> then explored the often-underestimated issue of chronic fatigue in IBD, linking it to circadian rhythm disruption, stress, and microbiota imbalance.<\/p>\n\n

Bruno Bonaz (CHU Grenoble) <\/strong>presented the promising anti-inflammatory effects of vagus nerve stimulation, while Malvyne Rolli-Derkinderen (TENS<\/a>, Inserm\u2013University of Nantes<\/strong>) <\/strong>shed light on the role of the enteric nervous system in maintaining intestinal barrier function.<\/p>\n\n

\u00c9milie Viennois (CRI, Inserm\u2013Universit\u00e9 Paris Cit\u00e9)<\/strong> introduced new perspectives on microRNAs and their role in shaping the host\u2013microbiota interface from the earliest stages of life. <\/p>\n\n

The afternoon highlighted the Nancy site\u2019s expertise in imaging and artificial intelligence, with presentations from Val\u00e9rie Laurent (CHRU de Nancy),<\/strong> Freddy Odille (IADI, Inserm\u2013Universit\u00e9 de Lorraine)<\/strong>, and teams from IADI,<\/a> the University of Lorraine, and CIC-IT.<\/a> Their projects are helping develop more precise and less invasive diagnostic tools, supporting smoother and more personalized patient care pathways. <\/p>\n\n
