A therapeutic patient education program dedicated to individuals with chronic inflammatory bowel disease (IBD)
What is therapeutic education for patients?
“The aim of Therapeutic Patient Education is to help patients acquire or maintain the skills needed to manage their lives as effectively as possible while living with a chronic disease. TPE contributes to improving patients’ health and quality of life, as well as that of their families, provided it is delivered through a structured program.” (World Health Organization definition)
There are 32 officially declared Therapeutic Patient Education programs at the Nancy University Hospital (CHRU). More than 200 healthcare professionals are involved and trained in therapeutic education, including disease-specific doctors and nurses, dietitians, pharmacists, physiotherapists, occupational therapists, physical activity instructors, psychologists, social workers, nursery nurses, and others.

Patients and/or patient associations are also involved in certain programs, such as AFA Crohn RCH France — a key partner of the IHU Infiny — in the EDU MICILOR program.

How does this program work?
An initial interview allows us to conduct a personalized educational assessment to best address your needs and expectations.
Several sessions may be offered, covering specific topics designed to help you better manage daily life with the disease, including:
- Understanding the disease, its effects, and possible complications
- Knowing your treatment and the importance of adherence
- Integrating the disease into your personal and socio-professional life, and interacting with your family and friends
- Practicing self-injection techniques if your treatment requires injectable medication
Enrollment in the EDU MICILOR program, authorized by the Regional Health Agency, entitles you to personalized individual sessions, group sessions, skill monitoring, and reinforcement sessions if needed.
All sessions take place at the Brabois site of Nancy University Hospital
